چکیده

ABSTRACT We present a case of shoulder instability following a traffic accident. Allman Type I midshaft clavicle, Ideberg Type II glenoid and DeCloux Type I scapular body fractures were diagnosed following radiologic examination. There were no signs of ligamentous injury. Mechanical instability was noted at the shoulder due to breakage of the supportive bony skeleton. The patient was treated surgically with plate and screw fixation. Surgical fixation allowed early postoperative physiotherapy and rehabilitation. This rare injury and its treatment options are discussed in the light of current literature. KEY WORDS floating shoulder, scapula, clavicle, glenoid, mechanical instability.

Floating Shoulder Injuries, What Parameters are Important and their Treatment Options

Scapular fractures are only 1% of all the fractures [2]. Glenoid neck fractures are 18-33% of the scapular fractures and only 50% of them have a double SSSC disruption. A glenoid neck and clavicle fractures is the most common type of floating shoulder injury pattern [2]. Open injuries are present in 9% of the FS cases [3]. The FS is often present in polytrauma patients (AIS of more than two in ...

The floating shoulder: ipsilateral clavicle and scapular neck fractures.

In ipsilateral mid-clavicular and scapular-neck fractures, the mechanical stability of the suspensory structures is disrupted and muscle forces and the weight of the arm pull the glenoid fragment distally and anteromedially. To prevent late deformity we recommend internal fixation of the fractured clavicle by a plate and screws. We treated seven patients with this unusual injury; all achieved a...

Ipsilateral Closed Clavicle and Scapular spine Fracture with Acromioclavicular Joint Disruption

INTRODUCTION Injuries around shoulder and clavicle are quite common. Injuries involving lateral end of clavicle involving acromioclavicular joints are commoner injuries. In this rare injury, we report about a case involving clavicle and scapular spine fracture with acromioclavicular disruption which has never been described in English literature as per our knowledge. CASE REPORT A patient wit...

Clinical outcome and radiographic change of ipsilateral scapular neck and clavicular shaft fracture: comparison of operation and conservative treatment

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to compare glenopolar angle (GPA) and the functional outcomes of fixation of both the clavicle and the scapular neck, fixation of the clavicle alone, and conservative treatment for floating-shoulder injuries. METHODS A prospective stratified randomized study was performed in 39 adult patients who suffered floating-shoulder injuries and underwent fixation...

ASPECTS OF CURRENT MANAGEMENT The floating shoulder

J Bone Joint Surg [Br] 2006;88-B:1419-24. The floating shoulder is defined as ipsilateral fractures of the midshaft of the clavicle and the neck of the glenoid. This rare injury can be difficult to manage without a thorough understanding of the complex anatomy of the shoulder girdle. Surgical intervention needs to be considered for all of these injuries. While acceptable results can be expected...
